M-Pesa B2C
M-Pesa B2C (Business to Customer) is a Safaricom service that sends money from a business account to an individual's M-Pesa number. Employers use it to pay wages directly to a fundi's phone.
Paying wages from a personal M-Pesa account is a bad habit: it blends business and personal money and leaves no clean record. M-Pesa B2C sends each worker their pay from a registered business account, in bulk, with a reference attached.

How B2C differs from B2B and STK Push
M-Pesa moves money in three ways that matter to a construction business. B2C pays an individual, B2B pays another organisation or till, and STK Push collects money from customers. Wages belong in B2C.
- B2C — business to individual, used for wages
- B2B — business to organisation or till, used for suppliers
- STK Push — collecting money from customers
Why wages should never leave a personal account
A personal M-Pesa line has its own transaction limits and no audit trail an accountant or NCA inspector can use. When wages go B2C from a business account, each payment carries a reference that the worker, your payroll file and your bank statement all agree on.
Limits, timing and confirmation
Safaricom sets tiered B2C per-transaction limits, commonly quoted up to KES 250,000 depending on your tier — far above a single day's wage. Payments settle in near real time and both employer and worker receive confirmation. FundiPay batches the payroll, sends the B2C payments and records the M-Pesa receipt against each fundi.
Frequently asked questions
Is M-Pesa B2C the same as sending money on my phone?
No. Sending money from a personal line is customer-to-customer and mixes business with personal money. B2C goes from a registered business account to the worker's number, so every wage has a reference and a record.
What is the B2C transaction limit?
Safaricom applies tiered limits, commonly quoted up to KES 250,000 per transaction depending on your organisation's tier. A single day's wage for one fundi is normally far below any tier limit.
Do workers need a smartphone or an app?
No. A fundi receives B2C money on any M-Pesa line, even a basic handset. On FundiPay they also check in by OTP and receive a digital payslip, all without installing anything.
